Description

Inspired by the legendary Maebiki “whale back” saw, traditionally used to rip logs into boards, the Temple Tool Co. Timber Framing Rip Saw has been refined into a lighter, narrower, and more agile design. This makes it ideal for modern timber framing, offering excellent control and precision while delivering powerful ripping performance.

The expertly crafted rip teeth are tailored for cutting green or wet wood, starting fine near the handle for easy initiation and becoming more aggressive toward the tip for rapid progress through the cut. The long 390mm SK85 Japanese tool steel blade features impulse-hardened teeth, ensuring lasting sharpness even through demanding use.

Its Japanese Wingnut hardwood handle, stained in a rich dark brown and wrapped with natural rattan, is shaped with a 30-degree bend that creates a fulcrum point for extra leverage. This allows the user to apply more force efficiently, speeding up every stroke. Perfect for tenon cheeks and large rip cuts in structural timbers, this saw is a must-have for serious timber framers. Pair it with our Temagari Crosscut Saw for the complete Timber Framing 2-Saw Combo.
