Description
The Traditional Japanese Temagari Saw is a powerful crosscut pull saw originally used for felling small trees and breaking down logs. Temple Tool Co. has adapted this classic design to serve modern timber framers, making it equally effective for post-and-beam construction, log work, and outdoor tasks.
Inspired by the Maebiki “whale back” saw, which featured a tall blade for ripping logs into boards, the Temagari is built with a narrower crosscut blade that offers better handling and control. This makes it easier to follow layout lines when cutting joinery or tackling large timbers.
Its expertly crafted crosscut teeth are designed for green and wet wood, starting fine and becoming progressively more aggressive along the blade. This allows cuts to begin smoothly near the handle before accelerating with long, efficient strokes. The 390mm SK85 Japanese tool steel blade is fitted with impulse-hardened teeth for long-lasting sharpness and durability.
The Japanese Wingnut hardwood handle, stained in a rich dark brown and wrapped in natural rattan, features a 30-degree bend that creates a fulcrum point, giving the user more leverage and cutting power. Whether trimming large joinery, pruning trees, or cutting logs, the Temagari delivers power and agility in a single tool. Pair it with our Rip-Cut Timber Framing Saw for the complete two-saw combo.
